When I first traveled to Romania in 2003, I thought I had said yes to an opportunity to teach at two international prayer conferences. I didn't realize that the Lord had planned to capture my heart and change my life. One look at an abandoned infant in the hospital, a hungry child on the streets or the eyes of a mother, desperate for food for her children, is all any of us would need to feel pity. But I don't want pity for Romania. Pity is a feeling that makes us feel sad or guilty or uncomfortable enough to change the channel. My hope is that as you see these pictures and hear our story, that you will be moved to mercy. Mercy isn't a feeling; it's a verb. Mercy will make you do something. Mercy will cause you to sacrifice. Mercy will move you to give. I'm asking you to help us to help them...to eat, to be in health, to be clothed, to be educated, and to know that all of these things were made possible because of the love of God. Please help us to give them hope. May His kingdom come, Dawn Sweigart |
